Japan veteran Yuto Nagatomo wants his team-mates to envoke the spirit of the samurai when they take on Croatia in the World Cup’s round of 16 on Monday.

Hajime Moriyasu’s side have sprung two of this World Cup’s biggest surprises to date, coming from behind to beat Germany and Spain 2-1.

Those results saw Japan top the final Group E standings and reach the knockout stage for a fourth time in the space of six finals.

Now ‘The Samurai Blue’ will look to go one better and become the first Japan squad to reach the quarter-finals at a World Cup.
