The gold medal of the women’s softball team at the Tokyo Olympics moved the whole of Japan. After retiring, Yu Yamamoto, who was the cleanup hitter, started a junior high school club team called “Sapporo Futures” in her hometown of Sapporo. There are only three members. Contrary to the excitement of the Olympics, the number of teams in Sapporo’s junior high schools has decreased from 40 10 years ago to 12 now, less than half.
