In just one second, his life changed forever. Martina Caironi, one of the Italian Paralympic athletes with the most medals ever, was 18, in 2007, when a car hit them on a scooter driven by her brother, leaving him unharmed and she with a crushed leg. To save her, the doctors could not help but amputate her left limb, and when she opened her eyes, that moment marked the beginning of an entirely new existence. While studying for high school, Martina had to learn to walk again. Until in 2010 in an office of the Inail Prosthesis Center, the photos hanging on the walls of the Paralympic champions sparked a new hope in her: Martina began training by discovering in her a hidden talent, which in the debut competition immediately allowed her to establish the Italian record in the 100 meters. Along the way, the obstacles were not lacking but she managed to overcome them all, up to Tokyo 2020, as a true champion in sport and in life.
