Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Kaoru Mitoma was seen in the training session with the backroom staff as Japan continued their AFC Asian Cup preparations in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday.
The 26-year-old was a suffered an ankle injury in Brighton’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on 21st January but was included in the squad.
Winners in 1992, 2000, 2004 and 2011, the Samurai Blue are the most successful team in the competition.
Japan are making their tenth appearance at the finals of the AFC Asian Cup and have qualified for every edition of the tournament since 1988.
They are on a ten-match winning streak after beating Jordan 6-1 in a closed-door friendly on 10th January.
Japan, biding to win the tournament for a record-extending fifth time, are in Group D and begin their campaign against Vietnam on 14th January. They will then face Iraq (19th January) and Indonesia (24th January).
