Advancements in drone technology could render metal detectors a thing of the past with the Queensland government looking at utilising mass screening options at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Neil Fergus, CEO of Intelligent Risks, told Sky News Australia security screening is developing in a manner which would be “as unobtrusive as possible”.
“Instead of people walking through the ubiquitous screening channels, and the walk through the metal detector you’d be familiar with at the Gold Coast (Commonwealth) Games, it may be that there are mass spectrum analysers which can be put there,” he said.
“It’s not a security event, security needs to be effective but as unobtrusive as possible and I think that’s the model the Queensland government has developed, it’s a model the IOC obviously like.” .
