Discover the benefits of hosting Brisbane 2032 for Brisbane, Queensland and Australia, through the eyes of some of the project’s key government partners.

Annastacia Palaszczuk, Queensland Premier and Minster for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, describes how the Games will bring socio-economic benefits worth AUD 8.1 billion for the state of Queensland and AUD 17.5 billion for Australia, with a Queensland-first procurement policy to ensure regional businesses are part of the supply chain.

While no infrastructure will be built for the Games, they will enable regional and national stakeholders to fast-track major projects, attracting new global and national business to Australia and Queensland.

Most of Queensland’s five million residents live outside the capital city, and Brisbane 2032 will be a Games hosted across the entire region to reduce costs and ensure more people benefit. This is made possible by the flexible new approach to electing Olympic hosts, that allows cities and regions to apply to host together.

Stirling Hinchliffe, Minister for Tourism, Innovation & Sport, Queensland, and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement, reflects on the sporting, social, tourism and infrastructure legacies expected in the 10 years before and after the Games.

Kerry Petersen, Former Queensland Government Associate Director-General of the Brisbane 2032 Taskforce, discusses how all three levels of government and other stakeholders united to achieve one common goal of hosting the Games.

This is the second in a series of IOC films talking to some of the partners behind the Brisbane 2032 Olympic project.

The Olympic host selection process has been reformed in recent years, to reduce the cost of hosting and to make Games organisation more sustainable. For example, all Olympic hosts must use a maximum of existing and temporary venues and build new ones only if there is a long-term legacy need.

Every aspiring Olympic host is invited to partner with the IOC to help build its own unique vision for the Games, a sustainable masterplan, and local and national support.

The IOC encourages each potential host to focus on developing a climate-responsible project that will create lasting community benefits and fits with existing regional and nationashl development plans, in addition to the long-term strategic goals of the Olympic Movement.
