Minamino has played a lot of football in a lot of different positions for Salzburg, with him getting minutes in central midfield, number 10, on the left and right wings and even leading the line as a striker. This versatility will be key for Klopp, as he can now freely rotate the lethal front 3 of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino without a major drop off in quality.
Most importantly, it allows Firmino to be rested, without changing the way Liverpool play. Firmino is so key to Klopp, he leads the press, links the play by dropping off the line and is the main source of natural creativity alongside the full backs. Roles that Takumi Minamino fulfills for RB Salzburg and if he translates his form to the Premier League, roles that he will fulfill for Liverpool.
Minamino is the fifth signing of Jurgen Klopp’s whilst he’s been at Liverpool that has played under Ralf Rangnick, joining the likes of Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane. And it’s not surprise considering the similarities in playing style between Ralf Rangnick’s sides, such as RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim, and Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. I think if Klopp improves Minamino by a similar amount to the players he’s already improved at Liverpool, players like Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, then Takumi Minamino could be Klopp’s best ever signing, considering the small fee in such a crazy market where uncapped Brazillians like Vinicuis Junior and Rodrigo move for 40 to 50 million pounds.
