Alana Reid of Jamaica comfortably secured her place in the semi-final round of the Under-20 girls’ 100-metre at the 50th Carifta Games with an impressive victory on Thursday.

Running from lane 2 in heat 2, Reid got off to a strong start and maintained her pace throughout the race to finish first in a time of 11.57 seconds, ahead of Shatalya Dorsett (11.92) and Reneisha Andrews (12.21).

In heat 3, Alexis James of Jamaica and Sanaa Frederick of Trinidad and Tobago engaged in a thrilling battle to the finish line. James led for most of the race, but Frederick managed to edge her out at the line, winning in 11.47 seconds to James’ 11.51.

All will return for the semifinals later in the afternoon session.

However, the highly anticipated U-20 girls’ 100-metre race at the 50th Carifta Games was marred by the absence of Adaejah Hodge from the British Virgin Islands. Hodge was expected to compete in the heats but did not show up, leaving fans disappointed.

According to information received by Trackalerts.com, travel issues and a snowstorm in the United States had affected the team’s travel plans to the Bahamas, leading to Hodge’s absence.
