Arsenal trained at their Hertfordshire base on Wednesday as they prepared for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last-16 tie against Sporting on Thursday.

The Gunners go into the home game after last week’s 2-2 draw away at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon where William Saliba’s opener was cancelled out by two Sporting goals before a freak own goal from Hidemasa Morita meant the scoreline finished level.

The north London side are sitting five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the English Premier League standings and come into Thursday’s game following a dominant 3-0 win away at Fulham on Sunday.

Four first-team players came back following injuries and illnesses in that game, most notably Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus, who came on as a second-half substitute after three months out with a knee injury.
