Tokyo Olympics 2020 day 1 news – https://youtu.be/Ouuwh7hoW_0

Women’s 400m Hurdles Olympics – All the main medal contenders progress to the next round with Dalihah Muhammad running the fastest time in 53.97.

Women’s discus Olympics – Valarie Allman qualifies with the furthest throw of 66.42. Only 2 athletes qualify by throwing the qualification mark.

Men’s Pole vault Olympics – 5.75 was good enough to qualify through to the final, with no real upsets other than Valentino Lavillenie not making the final. Armand Duplantis is still looking the clear favourite.

Men’s 800m Olympics – All the main favourites through. With Fergus Rotich running the fastest time of the day with 1:43.75. All Americans Clayton Murphy, Bryce Hoppel and Iishah Jewett qualify. Shock as Oliver Dustin a fast finisher and 1:43 runner fails to qualify in a race that seemingly suits his race tactics.

Women’s 100m hurdles Olympics – J. Camacho-Quinn qualifies with the fastest time of 12.41. World record Holder Kendra Harrison also qualifies with the 8th fastest.

Men’s 100m Olympics – Canada’s Andre De Grasse runs the fastest qualifier with a 9.91 clocking. Shock as Trayvon Bromell scrapes through to the semi-final as a fastest loser, running 10.05.

Men’s Long Jump Olympics – Juan Miguel Echevarria jumps once with a huge 8.50m. Someone Jamaican T. Gayle jumps 8.14 with an injured leg and comes out of the pit struggling to walk. Javaugh Harrison who’s going for the Long jump and High Jump double qualifies.

Men’s discus Olympics – Daniel Stahl wins with 68.90. Simon Pettersson makes it a 1 & 2 for Sweden and Lukas Weishaidinger takes third for Austria.

Women’s 800m Olympics – Athing Mu looks most impressive cruising to a 1:58.07 as the fastest qualifier. Her teammate Ajee Wilson fails to qualify, but the third american Rayven Rodgers qualifies as the slowest fastest loser with 1:59.28. Almanza who is the 2nd fastest in the World this year fails to qualify. All three Great Britain runners, Keely Hogkinson, Jemma Reekie and Alex Bell all qualify for the final.

Mixed 400m relay Olympics – Relay specialists Poland somewhat cause an upset by taking the win. Dominican Republic takes 2nd and the United States takes 3rd. I would find it interesting to see how fast the United States could run if they put their full team out.

Women’s 100m Olympic final – Elaine Thompson-Herah becomes Olympic champion running 10.61 into a headwind! Some say this equals the legal World record as the 10.49 WR had

suspicious wind readings. Favourite shelly Anne Fraser Pryce takes 2nd and Shericka Jackson completes a Jamaican 1,2,3.

Performance of the day goes to Elaine Thompson with probably the best women’s 100m run in history. Also defending her Olympic title. Athing Mu in the 800m also seriously impresses. Dina Asher Smith injury.

Shock of the day comes as Almanza and 800m defending World champion Nanyondo fail to qualify. Along with Ajee Wilson.
