Australia took on the might and technology of the US in the equivalent of Track Cycling’s America’s Cup with a Gold Medal 4km Team Pursuit ride off in the final of the 1984 LA Olympic Games. Against all odds Australia won against the home Country which pulled out all stops to win no matter what in a classic David vs Goliath victory!
This showdown is full of a huge amount of drama along the way with the US having 3 starts in Qualifying after crashes and mechanical issues and winning their Quarterfinal to Denmark by only 1/100th of a second. Australia had to beat the fastest Qualifiers Italy in their Semi to get through to the final.
