First
Eumir Marcial
One of the most anticipated boxing fight in the Tokyo Olympics.
Here are his highlights against Algerian Younes Nemouchi.
Marcial won by referee stoppage right in the opening round of the men’s middleweight round of 16, where he made his Olympic debut on Thursday, July 29.
The referee stepped in to stop the fight with 19 seconds left in the first round due to a bloody cut above Nemouchi’s right eye.
Marcial will move on to the quarterfinals, where he will face Armenian Arman Darchinyan for a shot in the medal round on Sunday, August 1, 11:36 am, Philippine time.
Next Male Boxer is Carlo Paalam in Flyweight division
Paalam first fight was on last Tuesday (July 26) against Irish Brendan Irvine. Here are good highlights.
Paalam had a good performance and win via a 4-1 split decision.
Paalam will now advance to the Round of 16 slated on Saturday July 31 , where he is set to take on Mohammed Flissi of Algeria. Again his second fight, on Saturday July 31, 10: 45 am.
Now we go to our Female Champs.
First
Irish Magno.
Her first fight was on Sunday, July 25. Here are highlights.
Magno earned a unanimous decision win, 5-0, over Kenya’s Christine Ongare in the round of 32.
In her next fight Irish Magno bowed out the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a loss by unanimous decision in the women’s flyweight beaten by Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong. Jitpong is more faster and accurate in her punches. The 30-year-old Magno becomes the first Filipino boxer to exit in the Olympics.
And lastly
Our other Female Pride Nesthy Petecio.
Petecio, the 2019 world champion, became the first Filipina boxer to win an Olympic medal, securing at least a bronze for the country in the quadrennial meet’s featherweight event on Wednesday, July 28.
Here are highlights.
Petecio earned a unanimous decision win, over Colombia’s Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda in the women’s featherweight quarterfinal.
Petecio next match will be July 31, 12:39 pm, Philippine time, against Italy’s Irma Testa in the women’s featherweight semi-final. Hopefully she will win. Giving her a shot for another Gold Medal for the Philippines.
