Japan trained at their World Cup base in Doha on Sunday, continuing preparations for a round of 16 tie against 2018 runners-up Croatia.
Hajime Moriyasu’s side have sprung two of this World Cup’s biggest surprises to date, coming from behind to beat Germany and Spain 2-1.
That pair of shock results saw Japan top the final Group E standings and reach the knockout stage for a fourth time in the space of six finals.
Now ‘The Samurai Blue’ will look to go one better and become the first Japan team to reach the quarter-finals at a World Cup when they face Croatia on Monday.
