Pitcher Yu Darvish spoke to the media on Wednesday as he began spring training with the Texas Rangers.

24-year-old Japanese pitcher for the Texas Rangers, Yu Darvish, arrived in Arizona on Monday, to begin his second season in America. In his first season, the 6-foot-5 right-hander finished with 221 strikeouts in 191 innings. This season, Texas say they plan to have a strong rotation of pitchers, one that features Darvish, Matt Harrison and Derek Holland. Darvish says that a rotation system could be the best way to bring the Texans success.

Yu Darvish, Texas Rangers Pitcher:
“The ultimate goal is to win the championship obviously, it doesn’t really mean that if you’re the first of the rotation, you’re the ace – the most important thing is that everyone on the rotation stays healthy and is out there in October to win the championship, that’s my goal.”Darvish will be without Joe Furukawa as his full-time translator. Furukawa, who helped ease the 24 year-old in to the Major Leagues, has been returned by the Rangers to his previous posting as a Pacific Rim scout.
