Saudi Arabian Karateka Tareg Hamedi was disqualified in the men’s Kumite +75kg final and lost his gold medal due to excessive contact which is not allowed in point sparring competitions. Saudi Arabia’s Tareg Hamedi delivered a perfectly timed kick and knocked out his opponent Sajad Ganjzadeh from Iran during the men’s kumite +75kg final in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Due to the judges’ decision deemed it as an uncontrolled attack, Tareg got disqualified and received only a silver medal while Sajad won the match and received a gold medal. In competitions, the winner is not always the better fighter but is the one who scores more points within the rules of the competition.
