The second day of the Intercollegiate Swimming Championships. The first relay event during the tournament is the 4x100m freestyle relay. In relay events, the points given to a school are double those given to individual events, so it is essential to win the overall championship. It is an event that gets the whole venue excited. In the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, Chuo University, led by Nagisa Ikemoto (4th year at Chuo University), who was a representative relay member at the Tokyo Olympics and the Paris Olympics, advanced to the finals after passing the preliminaries in first place. Ikemoto won two individual events (100m freestyle and 200m freestyle) at last year’s Intercollegiate Championships, and also won the 4x100m freestyle relay as Chuo University, achieving a triple crown, and expectations were high this year as well. Ikemoto won the 100m freestyle on the first day of the tournament and the 200m freestyle on the second day of the tournament, achieving a double crown this year. With the words, “I want to show the venue that Chuo University’s women are also strong,” she entered the final of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay with the aim of winning the triple crown for the second consecutive year. Ikemoto, who was the first swimmer in lane 4, was chasing Kamino Yume (4th year student at Chukyo University) who was swimming next to her immediately after the start. However, she caught up with Kamino around 75m and handed the baton to the second swimmer with a slight lead at the end. After that, her teammates Konno Ririka (4th year student at Chuo University), Hasegawa Hazuki (2nd year student at Chuo University), and Sawano Riko (2nd year student at Chuo University) defended the lead that Ikemoto had created, and Chuo University’s women won the championship for the second consecutive year. After the race, Ikemoto expressed her joy, saying, “Since this was the last Intercollegiate Championships and this relay was a matter of consecutive victories, I was hoping that I could create a good flow at the start. I’m really glad that this result came out.” Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay Results 1st place Chuo University (Ikemoto, Konno, Hasegawa, Sawano) 3:41.11 2nd place Waseda University (Funakoshi, Matsumoto, Uchida, Aoki) 3:42.32 3rd place Chukyo University (Kamino, Hiroshita, Ishiwata, Tayama) 3:43.79 *Please note that there is no narration in this video.
