More transfers due to Ito injury? Eberl answers meaningfully | FC Bayern Munich FC Bayern Munich may have to cope with a serious personnel setback: new signing Hiroki Ito was injured in a friendly match against 1. FC Düren (1:1). The suspicion: a broken metatarsal. In sporting terms, FC Bayern’s friendly match against 1. FC Düren was a disappointment. Vincent Kompany’s team could only manage a 1:1 draw against the regional league team, which had only started the season the day before with a 1:1 draw against SC Paderborn II. Much more bitter than the result, however, is Hiroki Ito’s injury. The new signing from VfB Stuttgart was injured after just 18 minutes and had to be replaced by 18-year-old Adam Aznou, assisted by doctors. “Unfortunately, we’ve been unlucky with injuries,” explained sporting director Max Eberl after the match. “The metatarsal is probably broken, so he will be out for some time.” For the Japanese, who Bayern paid a transfer fee of 23 million euros, it was only his second appearance in the FC Bayern jersey. He had played in the second half of the 14:1 win against FC Rottach-Egern four days earlier. Eberl, however, ruled out a direct reaction to the injury by bringing in a new player. “First of all, we have a very good, very large squad. Injuries happen,” the 50-year-old remained calm. Nevertheless, he indicated: “Now it’s happening in the transfer window, so the logical question is whether anything else will happen. But we have our general plan and we will continue to follow it. On September 1st, when everything is closed, we will see what has come of it.” In addition to Ito, Munich’s central defense includes Dayot Upamecano, Min-Jae Kim, Eric Dier, returning loan player Josip Stanisic, homegrown player Tarek Buchmann, who is slowly being brought back after his thigh injury, and Matthijs de Ligt, who is being courted by Manchester United. However, an agreement is still pending – as is the case with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, who the Munich team is still trying to sign. As part of its preparations, FC Bayern will travel to Seoul on Wednesday, where its summer tour in South Korea will begin – most likely without Ito. The following Saturday (1 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) there will be a friendly against Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. ► Subscribe to the channel so you don’t miss any more videos!
