Sha’carri Richardson has not had the conventional route to an Olympic debut. After making the United States Track and Field team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the 100 meters, Richardson would not be eligible to compete at the games after failing a drug test in which marijuana was found in her system. She then finished in 9th place later that summer at the 2021 Prefontaine Classic, in a race that featured Tokyo Medalists Elaine Thompson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson. Despite support from Track and Field legends Usain Bolt and Allyson Felix, Sha’carri became one of the most hated athletes in America. She overcame all of the hate two years later, as she won the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, before qualifying for this year’s Paris Olympics, looking for redemption.
