Ahmed Hafnaoui won the gold medal in the 400-metre freestyle at the 2020 Summer Olympics, which took place in 2021, with a time of 3:43.36 minutes. At the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, he became world champion in the 800 and 1500 meter freestyle and runner-up in the 400 meter freestyle.
