Hoki is 28 years old and is from Yanai City. He started badminton when he was in the first grade of elementary school, and continued to grow even after entering junior high school in Fukushima. After graduating from high school, he paired with Yugo Kobayashi and played for Tonami Transportation in Toyama Prefecture. He is a top player who won the first gold medal in Japanese men’s doubles history at the World Championships and has a track record of being ranked number one in the world. At the end of last month, Hoki returned to Yanai City and visited his alma mater, Hiseki Elementary School. His rallies with the children, advice, and smiles and relaxed expressions are impressive.
