12 June 2024 – The sixth and final evening in Roma was another treat for the fans!

As customary on the final day, the relay races provided plenty of excitement on the track. Italy’s squad, including individual 100m champion Marcell Jacobs, was victorious in the men’s 4x100m, and the British women took the gold, making it two for Dina Asher-Smith and finally a gold for Daryll Neita who narrowly missed out over 200m the day before. Femke Bol and the Dutch team triumphed in the women’s 4x400m race and Alexander Doom brought it home for the Belgian men’s quartet.

Over the middle distances, Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen made it a double gold at these championships with a confident win over 1500m, while British 800m runner Keely Hodgkinson defended her 800m title. Switzerland’s Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu secured a gold in the men’s 10000m race.

On the field, three events closed the championships. In the pole vault, Mondo Duplantis, in a league of his own as usual, took the title, jumped 6.10m and had three close attempts at a new world record. In the women’s long jump, German Malaika Mihambo won gold; silver went to rising Italian star Larissa Iapichino, much to the joy of the home crowd.
German javelin thrower Julian Weber was in the lead from his first attempt right until the final round, when Czech Jakub Vadlejch came up with the winning throw.
